Trial mechanics
What the 7-day free trial includes, what happens at day 7, and the grace period.
Every new Follow The Spend account starts with a 7-day free trial. Full feature access, no credit card required.
What the trial includes
Everything. The trial is not a stripped-down demo:
- Full Pulse dashboard
- Full attribution model switching
- Unlimited Visitor Journeys
- Full data tracking, no event caps
- Full KB and Guides access
- Email support at the same SLA as paid accounts
What it doesn't include
- Pixel installation requires Shopify OAuth — that part isn't trial-gated, it's just how the product works
- Custom checkout subdomain setup (Plus stores) — these need a manual step regardless of plan
Day 0 to day 7
The trial timer starts the moment you click "Install" on the OAuth approval screen. From that timestamp:
- Days 0–4: Normal use, banner shows days remaining
- Days 5–6: Banner turns amber, "Start subscription" CTA highlighted
- Day 7: Trial expires at the same hour it started
What happens at day 7
If you've started a paid subscription before the timer hits zero: nothing changes. You transition seamlessly into your chosen plan. First charge is processed, billing cycle starts.
If you haven't started a subscription: account enters read-only mode:
- Existing data remains visible in Pulse and Journeys
- Tracking pauses — no new sessions or orders are recorded
- Banner turns red with a "Start subscription" prompt
You stay in read-only mode for 7 days of grace. During grace, you can start a subscription at any time and resume tracking without any data gap (orders that occurred during the gap aren't recoverable, but tracking resumes from the subscription start).
After the grace period
If 7 days of grace elapse without a subscription, the account is marked for cleanup:
- Tracking pauses permanently
- Data is retained for 30 days from grace expiration, then permanently deleted
- A reactivation email is sent at day 1 of grace and day 5 of grace
If you want to come back after the 30-day deletion window, you'd be a new customer — same as starting fresh.
Reinstall and trial reset
If you uninstall the Shopify app during your trial, then reinstall:
- The trial timer does not reset. We track trial start by site, not by install. Reinstalling doesn't grant a new trial.
- Your data is preserved.
- You pick up where you left off in trial days.
If you reinstall after the grace period and after the 30-day data deletion:
- It's a fresh trial.
- Old data is gone.
Cancelling during the trial
Cancel any time during days 0–7 with no charge. Your account is closed immediately, data enters the standard 30-day retention window, then deletes.
There's nothing to "decline" before day 7. If you don't subscribe, the trial expires automatically. No surprise charges, no auto-billed conversion.
